PURPOSE: To provide a method for modifying a deodorizing paper, capable of increasing chance of direct contact with offensive smell component and improving deodorizing performance so as to be useful for fresh foods-packaging papers by exposing fine powder deodorizing agent-containing paper under atmosphere of an active seed and exposing a part of the deodorizing agent.

CONSTITUTION: This deodorizing paper is modified by exposing (A) paper containing fine powder-deodorizing agent to atmosphere in which (B) one or more active seeds exist, etching paper surface and exposing a part of the fine powder deodorizing agent. Furthermore, it is preferable that paper made from a paper stock to which a material consisting mainly of fine powder deodorizing agent, preferably a mixture of titanium dioxide with zinc oxide and containing a small amount of water component is added into the paper is used as the component A and the term 'under atmosphere in which the component B exists' means 'under atmosphere in which either one or plurality of ion, free radical, etc., exist in irradiated or packed state'.
