Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a modified asphalt compsn. improved in high- or low-temp. rheology, aging resistance, and condensability by stirring an asphalt base and a specific acid-derived compd. under heating to cause the bridging between two arom. entities of the asphalt base.
CONSTITUTION: An asphalt base which is a mixture of a base subjected to a viscobreaking treatment and an arom. extract or slurry and 0.05-10 wt.% at least one acid-derived compd. having at least two functional groups capable, respectively, of being grafted onto the asphalt base are stirred at the softening point of the asphalt base or higher (130-300°C) for 1-30 hr to cause bridging between two arom. entities of the asphalt base.
