Abstract:

To provide carbon fibers on whose longitudinal surfaces a polymer is grafted, to provide a resin composition containing the same, and to provide a coating containing the same.

The modified carbon fibers produced by free radical-decomposing a polymer having azo groups and/or peroxy groups and then graft-polymerizing the radical-decomposed polymer to the surfaces of the carbon fibers in a mass ratio of 1 to 200%. The resin composition is produced by dispersing the modified carbon fibers in a resin. The coating is produced by dispersing the modified carbon fibers in a solvent having a difference of ≤1 between the SP value of the polymer bound to the carbon fibers and the SP value of the solvent.
