Abstract:

To provide a modified hydrocarbon-based cation exchange membrane of which proton conductivity is generally maintained and methanol permeability is improved, and to provide a method for producing the same.

The modified hydrocarbon-based cation exchange membrane is obtained by forming a polyamine-containing layer crosslinked by dihalogenoalkane on at least one side of a crosslinked hydrocarbon-based cation exchange membrane. A cation in the modified hydrocarbon-based cation exchange membrane is ion-exchanged with Cs ion, and integrated intensity of the Cs ion along the membrane thickness is calculated by an analysis using an X-ray microanalyzer, and a ratio (Cs0.3/Cs0.5) of integrated intensity of the Cs ion within an area from a membrane surface to a depth of 0.3 T (Cs0.3) to integrated intensity of the Cs ion within an area from the surface to a depth of 0.5 T (Cs0.5) is 0.05-0.50.
