PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a modified laminar silicate capable of readily and uniformly dispersing flake of laminar silicate into a polymer, actualizing a resin-laminar silicate composite material having excellent mechanical strength, thermal characteristics and gas barrier properties of composite material, a modified laminar silicate/resin complex and a composition composed of the complex and a thermoplastic resin.
SOLUTION: This modified laminar silicate is obtained by subjecting a metal ion contained as an exchangeable cation in a crystal structure of laminar silicate to ion exchange with a transition metal complex. This modified laminar silicate/ resin complex is obtained by polymerizing an olefin-based monomer in the presence of the modified laminar silicate. This composition is composed of the modified laminar silicate and a thermoplastic resin.
