Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a modified mint oil useful as food and drink, medicine, etc., capable of easy preparation of desired flavor composition free from depleted material, unpleasant odor or unpleasant taste, flavor like a hogweed, resinous material, etc., by carrying out the contact and extraction of a specific crude mint oil with super critical carbon dioxide at a specific temperature and pressure.
SOLUTION: This modified mint oil is obtained by carrying out the contact of (A) the crude mint oil obtained by steam distillation of mints with (B) super critical carbon dioxide at 35-100°C, under pressure of 76-350kg/cm2, in some cases the continuos contact is repeated under the combination of the same temperature and pressure, to remove (C) the unpleasant odor or unpleasant taste, unstable terpene hydrocarbon, hogweed flavor, resinous material by fractional extraction.
