To obtain a modified polyester-based fiber product excellent in moisture absorption, ammonia deodorizing ability, SR antifouling property and antistatic properties by converting a predetermined amount of carboxylic acid groups introduced by graft polymerization to their alkali metal salts.
This product having a coefficient of moisture absorption (20°C×65%RH) of ≥5% is obtained by preparing a water-based emulsified fluid dispersion comprising 0.01 to 5 wt.% of hydrophobic free-radical initiator e.g. benzoyl peroxide, 0.01 to 2.0 wt.% of phthalimide-based compound e.g. N-alkyl phthalimide, 10 to 30 wt.% of alkylene glycol e.g. ethylene glycol based on the phthalimide-based compound and 1 to 10 wt.% of ethylenic unsaturated organic acid e.g. (meth)acrylic acid, by immersing a polyester-based fiber product in the fluid dispersion, by graft polymerizing it by heat treatment and by converting 40 to 95 wt.% of the whole amount of introduced carboxylic acid terminal groups to its alkali metal salt in an water solution of basic alkali metal compound.
