Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prepare a modified polyester having high polymerization degree and containing large amount of sulfonic acid salt group, by reacting a specific glycol with a di(carboxy)benzenesulfonic acid salt and a dicarboxylic acid.
CONSTITUTION: A composition composed of (A) a glycol of formula I (n is 2W4; m is 2W20), e.g. diethyleneglycol, etc., and (B) a dicarboxylic acid (such as terephthalic acid) containing 10W50 mol% of 3,5-di(carboxy)benzenesulfonic acid potassium salt of formula II (R is lower alkyl; M is potassium, etc.), is subjected to the polycondensation reaction using a titanium compound such as titanium alcoholate as a catalyst to obtain the objective modified polyester.
