Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve flexibility, hygroscopic property and heat stability of a protein fiber or its fiber product without impairing hand feeling and mechanical properties by carrying out graft polymerization of the protein fiber or its fiber product with a specific monomer.
CONSTITUTION: This modified protein fiber or its fiber product is obtained by immersing a protein fiber or its fiber product into a processing liquid obtained by dispersing a (meth)acrylic acid ester expressed by the formula [R is H or CH3; (n) is 4-10] using a surfactant and subjecting the protein fiber or its fiber product to graft polymerization with the monomer. 4-Hydroxybutyl acrylate, 4-hydroxybutyl methacrylate, etc., can be exemplified as a preferable example of the (meth)acrylic acid ester. Silk yarn derived from domesticated silkworm or wild silkworm or wool fiber can be exemplified as the protein fiber.
