To provide a modified styrene-maleic acid copolymer which can be reutilizable by modifying the recovered decomposition product of a thermosetting resin, and to provide the use of the modified styrene-maleic acid copolymer.
The modified styrene-maleic acid copolymer is obtained by reacting a carboxylic acid group of a styrene-maleic acid copolymer shown by formula (1) (wherein A is a hydrogen atom or a metal element; m is the number of 1-3; n is the number of 3-300; both ends are hydrogen atoms) with the predetermined halogen and/or epoxy compound. When the metal element shown by A is a di-valent or more valent metal element, the metal element may form salt with a plurality of carboxylic groups (which are not limited to the carboxylic groups in the same molecule).
