PURPOSE: To obtain a fuel reduced in the formation of NOx by adding a specified organic oxygenous compound such as lauryl alcohol, ethylene glycol monohexyl ether or ethylene glycol monoacetate to a kerosene fuel.
CONSTITUTION: Desirably 0.1-5wt.% organic oxygenous compound of the formula (wherein R1 is a 1-18 C aliphatic hydrocarbon group when (n) is 0-12; or a 2-18 C aliphatic acyl when (n) is 1-12; A is ethylene or trimethylene which may have an alkyl side chain) is added to a fuel based on kerosene and used for a gas turbine or a boiler. Desirable examples of the alcohol compounds include n-hexanol and cyclohexanol, a desirable example of the alkylene glycol ether is ethylene glycol mono-n-hesxyl ether, and a desirable example of the acyl compound is tetraethylene glycol monolaurate. By adding such a compound to a kerosene fuel, NOx in exhaust gases can be markedly reduced.
