Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a modifier for rubber, which can greatly improve resistance to heat generation of vulcanized rubber, consisting of a specified 8-hydroxyquinoline derivative.
CONSTITUTION: 8-Hydroxyquinoline and sulfur chloride and/or sulfur are reacted together in a molar ratio of 1:0.1W1.2 in an org. solvent such as ethyl acetate with heating to produce an 8-hydroxyquinoline derivative of the formula (wherein x is the number of the bonded sulfur atoms), which is then used as a modifier for rubber. 0.1W10pts.wt. said modifier is blended with 100pts.wt. rubber.
