The moisturizer low in irritating properties on skin and without tackiness contains a cellulose derivative having not less than 0.2 amide group (a) and not less than 0.2 carboxy group (b) per constituting glucose unit as an average in whole molecules, which exhibits moisturizing action, wherein the cellulose derivative (A) is an amide-modified carboxymethyl cellulose obtained by amide-modifying carboxymethyl cellulose.
