Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a molding having good dimensional accuracy over a long period of time without causing plastic deformation by heat, etc., at the time of molding by using a sintered body of ceramics as the mold for molding a titanium metal.

CONSTITUTION: The ceramics, such as carbon ceramics of an alumina system, is excellent in various characteristics, such as mechanical strength and wear resistance, at a high temp. required for the mold for molding of the titanium metal. The material made of the ceramics is worked to a prescribed shape in the case of production of the mold for molding. The resulted molding is, thereafter, calcined to a prescribed temp. in a prescribed atmosphere to form the sintered body having a dense structure. The sintered body obtd. in such a manner is subjected to a polishing treatment, by which the surface of the sintered body is uniformalized. Consequently, the mold for molding of the titanium metal having the desired dimensional accuracy is obtd. Then, the titanium molding having the good dimensional accuracy is produced without receiving the influence of the heat, etc., the time of the molding, even if a laborious correcting operation is not carried out.
