PURPOSE: To improve transverse rupture strength by dry-pressing raw material particles containing ceramic particles coated with a specified amount of poly(2- ethyl-2-oxazoline)-containing binder and producing a molding of a prescribed water content.
CONSTITUTION: A composition containing poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) having 50000 to 800000 average molecular weight is dissolved in a solvent such as water- containing methanol to prepare a binder solution of 1.0 to 4.0wt.% concentration. A dispersant such as an acrylic compound is added thereto as necessary. Raw material particles containing ceramic particles are then dispersed in the above- mentioned binder solution to produce a slurry containing 50 to 80wt.% raw material particles. The resultant slurry is heat-dried by using a spray drier, etc., to obtain granules having about 0.1 to 2.0μm average particle diameter and containing 0.3 to 5wt.% poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline). The obtained granules are dry-pressed, thus obtaining the objective high-density molding having 0.5 to 1wt.% water content and exhibiting a high transverse rupture strength.
