To produce the subject molding material, excellent in economical efficiency and ecological properties and useful as a recyclable catheter or a bag, etc., used in medical treatment techniques by copolymerizing a hydrophobic monomer with a hydrophilic monomer having biospecifically acting functional groups.
This molding material is produced by radially copolymerizing (A) a hydrophobic monomer (e.g. styrene, methyl methacrylate, vinyl chloride or the like) with (B) a hydrophilic monomer having a biospecifically acting functional group [e.g. a styrenesulfonate, a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate, a monoester of maleic acid or the like] used in an amount of 15-75 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. component A in a dispersion medium such as an alkyl alcohol or water or a solvent. The resultant molding material has anticoagulant characteristics useful for a tube, a film. a yarn, etc., brought in contact with blood or its ingredient. A plasticizer such as dioctyl phthalate in an amount of 5-85 wt.% is preferably contained in a composition comprising the molding material when molding the composition into the product.
