Abstract:
To mold castings made of a light alloy of a quality suitable for production of an automobile engine block by using a green sand mold.
A casting mold 10 having the mold formed from physically solidified sand is manufactured and is provided with a movable closing means 30 near the supply runner of this casting mold. The casting mold is so arranged that its runner exists on a lower side. The runner of the casting mold is connected to a pipe 20 for supplying the pressurized alloy melt. The alloy is packed into the casting mold and before the substantial solidification of the casting occurs, the runner is shut off by moving the closing means 30 and thereafter, the casting mold is rotated 180° and is solidified by a gravity system.
