Title:
MOLTEN METAL FLOW RATE MEASURING METHOD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH06281486
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To stably execute control on filling molten metal from a mold to a ladle bucket with high accuracy by measuring both the flow speed of molten metal and the cross sectional area of a molten metal flow, and thereby determining a molten metal flow rate by means of molten metal density and a specified formula.

CONSTITUTION: A speed sensor S1 and molten metal width measuring sensors S2 and S3 are provided in the vicinity of a ladle bucket 3 from which molten metal is filled in a mold 1. Signals from these sensors S1 through S3 are inputted to an operating unit 7. And the result of operations by the operating unit 7 is inputted to a control means 8. The sensors S2 and S3 are disposed in two directions which are perpendicularly intersected with each other around the molten metal flow 2, and the width of the moldten metal flow 2 is measured based on the two directions perpendicularly intersected with each other. The flow rate Q of the molten metal can be obtained by means of a formula: Q=VAρ. The flow rate Q of the molten metal may be obtained as an approximate value by a formula: Q=VAρ=Vπabρ, where V represents the flow speed of the molten metal, A represents the cross sectional area of the molten metal flow, (a) & and (b) represent the widths of the molten metal flow 2 measured in the two directions, ρ represents the density of the molten metal.
