PURPOSE: To manufacture the title wire rod having few amounts to be deformed at a high temp. and having excellent workability and yield by working an ingot having specific compsn. constituted of Gd or Gd oxide and Mo at a specific working rate and forming Mo crystalline grains into a fibrous structure.
CONSTITUTION: An ingot contg. at least one kind of 0.01 to 1.0wt.% Gd and Gd oxide and the balance Mo is prepd. The ingot is worked at ≥65% total working rate for the cross-sectional area. The above working is, e.g., executed in such a manner that the ingot is subjected to plastic working of hot rolling and hot stamp rolling working at about 1000 to 1200°C and, if required, is furthermore subjected to drawing at about ≤1000°C. By this method, a doping material is arranged in the longitudinal direction of the wire rod and the crystalline grains constituted of Mo are formed into the long and slender fibrous shape. In this way, the Mo wire rod having few amounts to be deformed at a relatively high temp. of about ≥1000°C and having excellent workability and yield can be obtd.
