A monitoring apparatus monitors a combustion region with an image, which comprises an imaging apparatus including an imaging device 11 which is sensitive to light rays with 250 to 450 nm for imaging the interior of the combustion region, and an illumination apparatus 6 for illuminating with light rays of a wavelength in the range of 250 to 450 nm to a photographed region of the imaging apparatus 4. The imaging apparatus 4 includes an optical filter 13 for removing light rays with wavelengths exceeding 450 nm. The combustion region is located in incinerators 1, 31, and the imaging apparatus 4 is provided freely to photograph the combustion region via a imaging hole section 3 provided in an incinerator wall 2 of the incinerators 1, 31, and the illumination apparatus 6 is provided in the photographed region of the imaging apparatus 4 through the illumination hole section 5 provided in the incinerator wall 2 of the incinerators 1, 31.
