Abstract:

To provide compounds which are modulators of the receptor for advanced glycated end products (RAGE) and to provide a pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compounds.

The invention provides compounds of formula I, (wherein A1 is O, S or -N(R2)-, R1 is H, an aryl, etc., R2 is H, an aryl, etc., R3 and R4 are each independently H, a halogen atom etc.), and the pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compounds. The compounds of the invention are useful for acute and chronic inflammation, increased vascular permeability, nephropathy, atherosclerosis, and development of diabetic late complications, such as retinopathy, the development of Alzheimer's disease, erectile dysfunction, and tumor invasion and metastasis.
