Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject adduct usable in a curable coating compsn. and suitable for high solid topcoat for a car by reacting a polyhydric alcohol and a monoepoxide to form an adduct having specific mol.wt. distribution.

CONSTITUTION: A polyhydric alcohol such as glycerine represented by formula I (wherein R is a 2-18C aliphatic group and n is 2-6) and a monoepoxide represented by formula II (wherein R1 is an up to 14C aromatic group) (B) are subjected to addition reaction in an equimolar ratio, for example, in the presence of an etherifying catalyst to obtain the objective adduct with mol.wt. distribution of 1-1.2.
