Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily obtain the subject filament by extruding a highly crystalline polyolefin with an extruder and passing through a cooling chamber, a godet roll and a specific drawing chamber, thereby uniformly drawing the fiber simultaneous to annealing.

CONSTITUTION: Pellets 1 of a highly crystalline polyolefin such as isotactic polypropylene are supplied to an extruder 2 and extruded through a nozzle 3 to obtain a strand 4. The strand is immediately passed through a cooling chamber 5, godet rolls 6, 8 and drawing chambers 7, 9 containing water maintained at a temperature between the glass transition point and the melting point of the above polyolefin. The passing process is repeated proper times to draw the fiber to 5-23 times the initial length and simultaneously to anneal the fiber. The polymer chain of the fiber is oriented in the direction of the fiber axis by the above treatment to obtain the objective filament suitable as a rotary brush for car washing, etc.
