This device has a first reel assembly having a first motor which rotates in a first direction in order to deliver a magnetic tape and rotates in a second direction in order to take up the tape and a second reel assembly having a second motor which rotates in the first direction in order to take up the magnetic tape delivered by the first reel assembly and rotates in the second direction to deliver the magnetic tape to the first reel assembly and is a device controlling the motion of the magnetic tape in the tape drive. The device described above has a means for starting a motor cleaning control unit in order to clean the interface of the commutator and brush of at least one motor of the first motor and second motor connected to a motor cleaning power source when the tape drive is inactive.
