After Cr, Ni, and Au are stacked by sputtering on part of a substrate and part of the rod type crystal body with a step, wet etching is used to form the rod type crystal body 11 with an electrode pattern in a specific shape and the step having a conductive coating on its surface. A semiconductor light emitting element 2 is fixed on a junction-down basis in contact with the step top surfaces and upper flanks of stepped rod type crystal bodies 9, 10, and 11. The height below the steps is predetermined and then height adjustments of the light emission center part of the light emitting element and the core center part of an optical fiber can be made easy. Further, the semiconductor light emitting element 2 is inserted into the part surrounded with the rod type crystal bodies 9, 10, and 11 and can easily be positioned.
