Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a movable breakwater constructed so as to operate with high reliability by engineering avoiding complicate devisal and operation and favorably utilizing the natural force.SOLUTION: A structure which is a main body of a breakwater has a shape with a framework of a light material sandwiched by plates of a light material, is connected to a shaft column in a hinged manner, and is installed usually while a major part thereof sinks under water. When a tsunami surges, the structure rotates around the shaft column so as to close a breakwater gate and prevents the going-upstream of the surging tsunami. A moment of the surging tsunami is utilized as a force required for closing of the breakwater gate. The breakwater gate moves to return to an original open state against backwash. Therefore, there is not a risk of damage to breakwater function caused by the backwash, and an effect same as that of the first time can be exhibited even when the tsunami surges repeatedly.
