Abstract:
PURPOSE: To more precisely decide a motion vector by using a hierarchical motion estimation method. CONSTITUTION: The motion vector deciding method is provided with a process in which each motion estimation of a hierarchical search block for a processing block is done with regard to a corresponding hierarchical search area and a minimum error function and a motion vector are provided, a process for comparing the minimum error function with a specified threshold value, a process for deciding a search block which has the smallest function of the minimum error among a hierarchical search block and a process in which when there are more than one search block in which the minimum error unction is smaller than the specified threshold value, a motion vector that corresponds to the highest hierarchical search block of these search blocks is decided as a motion vector; when there are no minimum error functions which are smaller than the specified threshold value, a motion vector of the search block corresponding to the smallest error function is decided to be the motion vector of the processing block.
