To provide a moving image output device which saves power consumption without remarkably degrading reproduced image quality for moving images and effectively improves image quality according to changing situations of the moving image output device.
The moving image output device detects an amount of difference between adjacent frames of moving image data, and determines the level of each frame based on the detected amount of difference. Based on monitor results under various predetermined conditions, the moving image output device selectively executes any of three operation modes, such as a normal mode that outputs video output data without increasing or decreasing the number of frames of moving image data, a thinning mode that thins the specified frames of moving image data based on the level of each frame, and a high quality mode that generates intermediate frames and inserts them into between the frames, each having an amount of difference which is more than or equal to a specified value.
