Abstract:

To provide a moving picture coding method capable of reducing computational complexity and an increase in overhead of coded data and considerably improving the predictive efficiency as to a fade image at the processing of which the conventional moving picture coding method such as MPEG is poor.

The moving picture coding method codes a moving picture by adaptively switching whether a plurality of decoded moving picture signals are selected for reference frames and a predictive macroblock image is generated from one of the reference frames by each macroblock, or reference macroblocks are segmented from the reference frames and an average is used for a predictive macroblock image, or reference macroblocks are segmented from the reference frames and linear extrapolation or linear interpolation in response to an inter-frame distance between a reference frame and a coded frame is applied to the reference macroblocks to generate a predictive macroblock image.
