To obtain mucilaginous agent which is used for making paper, can impart dispersibility to paper fibers without coagulating the paper fibers, even when used together with a cationic agent on the making of the paper, and can efficiently and stably make paper having good texture and excellent touch, to provide a method for making paper which uses the mucilaginous agent for making the paper, and to provide the paper made by the method for making the paper.
This mucilaginous agent for making paper comprises (meth) acrylamide monomer units and N-vinylcarboxylic acid amide monomer units. Nonionic monomer units may further be introduced to the copolymer. The copolymer preferably comprises 30 to 98 wt.% of (meth)acrylamide monomer units, 2 to 70 wt.% of N-vinylcarboxylic acid amide monomer units and 0 to 40 wt.% of nonionic monomer units. The N-vinylcarboxylic acid amide is preferably N-vinylacetamide. A solution containing the mucilaginous agent in an amount of ≥15 wt.% may be used.
