To provide a muffler which can effectively reduce a periodic high level noise caused by rotation of fins of a blower, and which can effectively reduce an exhaust noise from a supercharger used in particular in a marine engine.
In a muffler for an exhaust noise of a blower, a resonant cave part 36 is formed in the outer peripheral part of a blower exhaust passage 38, and a small hole 40 is formed in the inner wall of a passage, being communicated with the cave part 36. The volume of the resonant cave part 36, the cross-sectional area and the length of the small hole 40 are set so as to be dependent upon a resonant frequency in accordance with a rotating period of the blower. This muffler may be provided in the exhaust passage of the blower, which is coaxial with the exhaust turbine. A muffling duct unit 30 having the resonant cave part 36 with the small hole 40 being opened to the exhaust passage is removably attached to a supercharger outlet pipe or a tapered duct unit part, thereby the attachment of the unit 30 to an existing supercharger can be facilitated.
