To reduce the power consumption and to decrease more the noise figure as number of active cell amplifiers is smaller by dividing a frequency band being a requirement of the repeater into plural channels and using an independent cell amplifier sharing each channel division so as to amplify each signal of each channel.
An RF signal distributed from a distribution means 1 is given to a control unit 4, which measures its frequency and the signal level and gives a conversion signal 61 to a cell amplifier (A1 in this case) of a channel corresponding to the measured frequency. In this case, a gain adjustment signal 7 outputted from the unit 4 to the cell amplifier A1 so as to make an output level of the amplifier A1 constant based on the measured signal level. Thus, only the cell amplifier A1 corresponding to the frequency band of the input signal is active and its gain is controlled corresponding to the input signal level. Cell amplifiers A1-An are provided independently and they amplify their signals at each narrow frequency band, then cross modulation distortion is not caused, the noise figure is improved. When number of active amplifiers is smaller, the power consumption is smaller and then the C/I ratio is increased.
