Abstract:

To reduce harmful exhaust gases, solve a problem in low temperature starting wherein a "blue smoke" occurs in a so-called "warmup process" after the low temperature starting, improve performance, and increase fuel economy.

In this diesel engine with a variably actuated valve, a cam controlling intake valves is formed in a specific shape. By that shape, the intake valves are opened in the normal exhaust process of the engine, and the recirculation (EGR) of exhaust gases in the engine can be realized. It is based on the fact that, in the normal exhaust process, a part of the exhaust gases moves from the cylinders into the intake ports, and then returns into the cylinders in the next intake process. This engine also comprises a means for realizing the recirculation of the exhaust gases on the outside of the engine, and by using the recirculation of the exhaust gases inside and outside the engine, controls the temperature of a charge sucked into the cylinders.
