To provide an improved finger seal for reducing or eliminating leakage of air.
This multi-ply finger seal, that is, a seal assembly 10 is composed of an outside fine part 20 having one or a plurality of outside relief slots 50, an inside fine part 40 having one or a plurality of inside relief slots 45, and an intermediate layer 30 arranged between the outside fine parts 20 and the inside fine parts 40. The intermediate layer 30 prevents the air from passing through the relief slots 45 and 50. The intermediate layer 30 is made of a thin malleable material such as foil and a solid sheet material, and does not substantially permeate the air. Leakage of the air is reduced or eliminated by this seal assembly 10, and engine performance, thrust and fuel efficiency are improved.
