PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of roll marks to a material to be rolled by using integral type rolls to constitute center backup rolls and side backup rolls respectively and providing plural stages of the center backup rolls within the vertical plane.
CONSTITUTION: The center backup rolls 13A, 13A', 13B, 13B' and side backup rolls 4A, 4B are provided to intermediate rolls 2A, 2B contacting with work rolls 1A, 1B which roll a material W to be rolled and are respectively united in the axial direction thereof. The rolls 2A, 2B are made in the same length as the length of the other rolls and are pivotally supported vertically displaceably by chocks 16A, 16B. Two stages each of the rolls 13A, 13A', 13B, 13B' are provided within the vertical plane inclusive of the rolls 1A, 1B and both ends are pivotally supported vertically displaceably by chocks 20A, 20B. The generation of the roll marks to the material W is thereby prevented and the need for devices to oscillate the rolls 2A, 2B is eliminated.
