To provide a multi-stage compressor and multi-stage compressing method capable of reducing the size of a housing even in the case of providing a communicating chamber for communicating a compression chamber for performing compression of a designated stage with a compression chamber for performing compression of the next stage.
In two-stage compressor 1, first compression chambers 10a, 10b for performing compression of the first stage and second compression chambers 20a, 20b for performing compression of the second stage in each compression passage are communicated with each other through intermediate chambers 31a, 31b (communicating chamber) formed in each compression passage. Accordingly, the intermediate chambers 31a, 31b can be individualized so as to reduce the size of the intermediate chambers 31a, 31b, so that the size of a rear housing can be reduced.
