Abstract:

To provide a novel polysaccharide derivative excellent in water solubility and activator solution resistance and capable of helping to give an emulsion small in the particle diameter of dispersed particles and therefore stable, to provide a method for producing the same, to provide a water-based composition containing the same, and to provide an oil-in-water emulsion containing the same.

What is provided is: a polysaccharide derivative derived by substituting part or all of the hydrogen atoms of hydroxyl groups of a polysaccharide of a weight-average molecular weight of below 10,000 or a derivative thereof with groups each represented by formula (1): -E1-(OA)n-E2-R1; an emulsifier comprising the same; a water-based composition containing the same; and an oil-in-water emulsion.
