PURPOSE: To improve operational and functional performance by driving a common outdoor unit in a higher-ranking operational mode in accordance with a predetermined priority order in meeting the demand for different operational modes of indoor units and by prohibiting the operation of indoor units in the lower-ranking mode.
CONSTITUTION: From control circuits for indoor units 1a and 1b having CPU6 respectively, driving signals are given to a compressor-motor 3 of a common outdoor unit and relays 5a and 5b for starting a four-way change-over valve 4 to change the flow route of refrigerant, respectively, and at the same time driving-state signals for a motor 3 and the valve 4 are inputted in each control circuit therefor. When instructions for operation in different operational modes are given from both indoor units, an indoor unit 2 is driven in the higher-ranking mode in accordance with the predetermined priority order. At this time, the operation of the indoor unit instructing the operational mode in the lower-ranking order is stopped and the indication that the mode instructed is different from the operational mode is displayed on the operational panel of the unit.
