To secure a wide transmission band while suppressing an injection current to a wavelength converter in the case of converting the wavelength of multi signal light of an unequal interval wavelength into that of multiple signal light of an equal interval wavelength.
When unequal interval wavelength multiple signal light beams Ps1 to Ps4 (of wavelengths λa to λ4) and pump signals Pa to Pd (of wavelengths λa to λd) are inputted to a wavelength demultiplexer 102, the beams Ps1, Pa are outputted from a waveguide 103, the beams Ps2, Pb are outputted from a waveguide 104, the beams Ps3, Pc are outputted from a waveguide 105, and the beams Ps4, Pd are outputted from a waveguide 106. These outputted light beams are converted into converted signal light beams Po1 to Po4 (of wavelength λa to λd) by respective wavelength converters 111 to 114. A multiplexer 115 multiplexes the converted signal light beams Po1 to Po4 and outputs a multiplexed beam. When exciting beams Pα, Pβ, Pχ, Pδ are inputted to respective wavelength converters 111 to 114 through the multiplexer 115, a wide transmission band can be secured even when carrier density is increased and an injection current is reduced.
