PURPOSE: To reduce printing plate barrel manufacturing cost and dispense with inventory control of the printing plate barrel by enabling a pressure barrel and printing plate barrel to rotate asynchronously and printing different lengths of repeats without changing the diameter of the printing plate barrel.
CONSTITUTION: The power of the first gear 10 is transferred to a speed change mechanism 12 through a transmission shaft 13, and at the same time, a rotational speed is changed to allow the power to be transferred to the second gear 14 via a transmission shaft 15. The rotational speed of the gear 14 is conveyed to an idle gear 72, 74 and then to an idle gear 76, 78. This results in the rotation of the first and fourth printing plate barrels 24, 54. The first gear 10 is rotated by an electric motor 11 in accordance with the travel speed of a running web and each pressure barrel is rotated through the first transmission means. In the meantime the rotational motion of the second gear 14 changed at a pre-arranged ratio by the speed change mechanism 12 is conveyed to each printing plate barrel via the second transmission means. Thus each printing plate barrel rotates at a different peripheral speed from each pressure barrel. For the reason, repeats of different lengths from the pattern size of a printing plate are printed.
