To provide a multilayer coat forming method which can form a coat excellent in new design that has a crack feeling of earthenware tone on the surface of a base material such as a metallic material.
The multilayer coat forming method has (1) a step for forming a light-colored base-coat film, having the brightness (a L-starvalue) of 50 or above based on the L-star, a-star, b-star color coordinate system defined by JIS Z 8729, by coating and baking a light-colored base-coat paint, (2) a step for forming a color clear film by coating and baking, on the base coat film, a color clear paint forming a shrinkage pattern film containing (A) a polyester resin containing OH or an acrylic resin containing OH of 60-95 mass% for the total amount of an (A) component and a (B) component by solid content conversion, (B) a methylated melamine resin of 5-40 mass% for the total amount of the (A) component and the (B) component by solid content conversion, (C) a sulfonic acid, blocked with a tertiary amine of bp. 80-150C, of 0.2-3 mass% for the total 100 mass part of the (A) component and the (B) component by solid content conversion, and (D) a dark-colored pigment and/or a dye of 0.2-2 mass% for the total content in the paint by solid content conversion, and (3) a step for forming a clear film by coating and baking a clear paint on the color clear film.
