Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a file server capable of processing multimedia by managing data for every file. SOLUTION: Data files stored in a file storing storage device 5 are managed for every data file by using an index file 2, the attributes of each file is judged by the use of a defintion information file 3 and suitable start application 4 is started in each attribute to provide a multimedia interface to the data file. A file attribute defintion means is provided to a user so as to properly define new file attribute. When an SQL interface is used, data file information stored in a data base managed by a remote host through various network protocols can be referred to and updated by using an SQL language to be a standard data base reference interface.
