Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a multiple ceramic sintered compact containing yttrium oxide improved in mechanical strength.
CONSTITUTION: The objective sintered compact composed of yttrium oxide and silicon carbide with a multiple oxide containing yttrium and silicon formed on its surface. This sintered compact can be obtained by compression molding of a powder mixture of yttrium oxide powder and silicon carbide powder in an inert gas atmosphere at ≥1550°C followed by heat treatment in an atmosphere containing O2 gas.
