PURPOSE: To provide a speed change stage suitable for a travelling route, a travelling condition, etc., by providing a speed stage decision means to decide a speed stage to be an object to use in correspondence with the travelling route and the travelling condition of a vehicle and to correspond the speed stage with a speed change stage of a speed change stage selection means.

CONSTITUTION: A gear train suitable for a travelling route, a travelling condition, etc., of a vehicle is set in case of travelling the vehicle on which a transmission 14 is loaded. Consequently, a control device 51 selects a speed stage in correspondence with each of speed stages selected by a shift lever 42 in accordance with a current position of the vehicle detected by a current position detection means of a speed stage decision means 53, a travelling route of the vehicle set by a travelling route setting means 54 or a travelling condition of the vehicle detected by a travelling condition detection means 55. A speed change pattern in correspondence with the travelling route, the travelling condition, etc., is set by this selected speed stage.
