To realize a music signal compander which data compresses data to improve the quality of the signal components in auditory perceptibility of musically important parts, stores the compressed data in a recording medium, expands the data and reproduces the music signals.
When music signals are given from a music signal inputting section 1, a sound source separating section 2 in a preprocessing section 7A separates the signals into a plurality of the signals for every sound source. A physical property converting section 3 varies the physical property of each of the signals based on control information from a control information inputting section 5. A signal synthesizing section 4 synthesizes a plurality of output signals of the section 3 and transmits the synthesized signals to a data compressing section 8. For example, in compressed data, a high data rate is allocated to vocal signals, whereas low data rates are allocated to other parts. As a result, the quality of the signal components in auditory perceptibility of a musically important part is made better.
