Preliminarily decided feature values are extracted for the acoustic signal of a piece of music, and the feature values are associated with the bibliographic information (artist name, musical piece name, songwriter, composer, arranger, genre name or the like) of a piece of music in a database. Then, the bibliographic information (artist name, musical piece name, composer, songwriter, arranger, genre name or the like) associated with the feature values which are the closest to the feature values extracted from the piece of music is retrieved and displayed so that the bibliographic information for the accurate piece of music can be retrieved.
