PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To isolate the vibration of a structure, by installing the bottom face of a structure on a supporting ground and forming a crevice between the side face of the structure and the ground surrounding it and installing an impervious wall at the ground side of the crevice and charging dense mud slurry in the crevice.
SOLUTION: A structure 1 is constituted of a cylindrical side wall 4 and the bottom slab 2 to have a structure storing a high pressure gas or a high pressure liquid in the inside. As a base isolation structure, the bottom slab 2 is fixed to the supporting ground 3 and a crevice 6 is provided between the side wall 4 and the side ground 5 surrounding it. And dense mud slurry 7 is charged in the crevice 6. It is preferable that the specific gravity of the slurry is about 2 and the mud does not precipitate for a long time and it is chemically stable and further that the mud slurry is not influenced by the temperature of the stored materials. A large pressure of the dense mud slurry 7 acts on the whole side wall 4 and brings a compressive force at the cross section of the wall and offsets the inside pressure of the high pressure gas or liquid. The structure 1 is cut off from the side ground 5 by the slurry and hence, the influence of the side ground 5 is remarkably reduced in an earthquake.
