PURPOSE: To provide a compound suitable for manufacturing a medicinal product or medicine composition comprising a N-acyl urea or O-acyl isourea derivative of hyaluronic acid or its salts and having no chemically bound collagen.
CONSTITUTION: This N-acryl urea or O-acyl isourea derivative of hyaluronic acid or its salts which is capable of combining water soluble, hydrophobic lipophilic medicine by a weak non-bonding interaction and gradually and safely removed by diffusion and decomposition by enzyme treatment without generating a toxic or undesirable residue in living body is obtd. by reacting, in the presence of proton, hyaluronic acid (preferably having weight average mol.wt. of 100 thousand -12 million Dalton) or its salts (preferably sodium salt) with N-acyl urea or O-acyl isourea compound, preferably with carbodiimide or bis- carbodiimide, to introduce hydrophobic and/or cationic side chain.
