Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:An N-(α,α-dimethylbenzyl)-acetamide derivative of formula (R is phenyl which may be substituted with 1W3 halogen atoms).
EXAMPLE: N-(α,α-Dimethylbenzyl)-phenylacetamide.
USE: Herbicide effective to umbrella sedge, cockspur-grass, purple nutsedge, etc., and harmless to paddy rice plant, corn, etc.
PROCESS: Phenylacetic acid or a halogen-substituted phenylacetic acid is reacted with thionyl chloride to obtain the corresponding acetic chloride, which is then reacted with α,α-dimethylbenzylamine in an ether solvent in the presence of triethylamine to obtain the objective compound of the formula.
