NEW MATERIAL: A compound of formula I {wherein R1 is H or a halogen; A is formula II [wherein X is O or S; (n) is 0 or 1; R3 is H, a (halogen-, cyano-, OH- or the like-group-substituted) 1-3C alkyl, a 1-6C alkoxycarbonyl, OH, carboxyl or the like; R4 is H or a 1-3C alkyl], formula III (wherein Z is methyleneoxymethylene, methylenethiomethylene or the like; R5 and R6 are each H or a 1-3C alkyl)}.
EXAMPLE: N-[4-chlorophenyl-3-(1,3-dithiolan-2-yl)]-3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalimide.
USE: An active ingredient of a herbicide. It can show an improved herbicidal effect on undesirable plants even applied in a small amount and is not injurious to cultivated plants.
PREPARATION: For example, 3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride is reacted with an aniline of formula IV at 0-150°C in a solvent such as glacial acetic acid to obtain a compound of formula I.
